Hello everyone,
while working on Tims "Grenade Substance Painter" video, I came to the point that Substance Painter is not really baking any normal maps. I checked all the settings like Tims, but didn't get the same result as Tim. Most of my maps are just black. Hope I am not annoying you Tim with me newbie-questions, but I am still new to the programms and the whole workflow.
In the pictures you can see my results and the settings I am using.

Is you low poly directly on high poly?

Try posting a screenshot of your max file, or even upload it for us to take a look. :)

Also, check "Average Normals" in the baker, but I doubt that's what the problem is.

Yeah what Chuck said. This looks like what would happen when your object names aren't matching and using the appropriate suffixes as designated in SP.

Hey Chris.. indeed, the names don't match.
It says HIGH on your highpoly but substance painter baker is case sensitive so you have to name it _high ! :icon_partyparrot_e:

That should fix it ! :icon_teach:

Indeed... the naming convention is the #1 source of all baking related issues. So that would always be the first thing to check.

Also @Chris.. I just see that you didn't apply the smoothing groups on your lowpoly the way I show it in the tutorial. ;)
The body of the grenade should all be one smooth group. Make sure to take a look at that section at the end of the unwrapping part. It guarantees the best baking result.

Oh and I moved this in the tutorial help section :)

Thanks Tim,
I changed the smoothing groups and the names! Now everything is working fine :)
Have a nice day everyone!
