Hey Frostie, I usually start by finding a schematic view if it's a real life weapon.

So let's say I wanted to model a M1A. Then this is one of the useful images. I search for something like.. M1A Blueprint or M1A schematics or M1A Parts to find it.

Then you know the names of the parts and you can then refine your search to something like..."M1A Rod" for example.

It's really all out there on google images. Just gotta refine your search as you go. The only other source I use is YouTube.
It's very useful to see the object in action and you'll have a much easier time to understand the moving pieces and how they work.
So that's where I make a lot of screen captures then which also go straight into my reference folder.

Hey Tim,

thanks for the tip with the explosion image, this is a really good info.

Now my only problem is to find High Res Pics of the complete left or right side :D , but i think this is quite a standard for modelling the long search for images.

If you need to model older firearms: you might want to check http://candrsenal.com/, they have a lot of quality pictures mostly from ww1 weapons.

Also the youtube channels from C&Rsenal and forgotten weapons might be interesting. Forgotten weapons usually shows a lot of detail shots and disassemble most weapons.

Hey,
Today i started gathering reference material for an upcoming project of mine.
Im gonna do the Accuracy International L115A3
By doing so, i noticed the mentioned sources above didnt quite got me the results i was hoping for.
So i checked the website of the production company.

Thats where i found a brochure full of close-up´s and additional to that the manual.
(I know thats a rare case but you never know. )

I hope i could help ~
Alex
